This project looks very interesting. I hope it comes off well. I've a question that others probably wonder but, fear it may not come across too well. What if a contribution is poor and lends itself negatively to the compilation CD? I would suggest a moderator for the entries from someone that's not contributing. Those who put forward their songs for critique would have to genuinely accept the recomendation as constructive feedback though. It is recognised that no one would want their track to be ejected and, I suppose it's this that would make for a rejection of this idea and, be maybe controversial. It's just an idea. It's just that I've listened to a compilation created by a mix of people before, and it was spoilt by a couple of very poor contributors who were swearing & drunk! I just put the CD on my Windows Media Player, created a playlist and deleted the poor ones.

Have someone in mind? THe way I see it is there is a lot of negative remarks to the song placed into compilation. It can be put to a vote to remove it.

Not sure if I'd dare to be the Moderator who'd only get shot! I'd think about it but, genuinely think people would not take too kindly to getting constructive suggestions or, recomendations to change their contribution! Perhaps the latter part of my post may apply as being the way to go!

(just thought I'd give some input) I kind of understand what you are all talking about, and I'm not really sure whether or not it's a good idea to moderate the selections... probably both. For example, when you buy CDs at the store, there are always songs you don't really listen to, right? I know that's true with me! On the other end, it'd be a bummer if things went downhill b/c of a few poor contributions, and we certainly wouldn't want anybody to embarrass themselves with a song they might not have put enough effort into even if they're usually pretty awesome with the whole thing (because mostly everybody here has wonderful music sense ). So, what if we just gave suggestions to people's songs until the song is just about perfect? Or there's always the other option of saying "could you try making another song with this kind of feel to it for the CD?". Just thought I'd mention these things because I know I wouldn't want to be the one to be told my song wouldn't be apart of the project, and I certainly wouldn't want to put anybody through the process of being the moderator to deal with those people. I think there's so much talent here that we can make anything work... but I'm just rambling now. Sorry for the long post. Hope it's got some good info

I don't need to explain myself so stop asking stupid questions! So drop it. Singing is just like playing a Guitar to be good it can takes years of pratice.I'm sorry that some of you can't take being told you suck just get over it.Some of us can sing, some of us can't.And I'm not the one who goes around telling every body that they are great when they suck.lol

Ok, as you can see, I am new to the forum. This is my first post. However. I've been reading this topic for some time. I really like the idea. I have an All-Access Pass for Jamstudio, but only use it on rare occasions if I want to add soemthing special to a track. I compose all my tracks with Ableton Live 8. However, I recently came up with a nice funky, bluesy sounding song while still keeping my electronic roots on Jamstudio alone. I'll give you the link below. Maybe you like it the way it is. Maybe I could work on it with somebody else, maybe add in some vocals or something. It's meant to be peaceful and relaxing, nto exactly something you'd go mad dancing to at a club. I would love to work on something for this project, and this song may just be that something. I really love this idea. Maybe we could have a second one if the first one goes well? Peace out, Matt Can You HearThe Silence?http://soundcloud.com/cosmic-pop/can-you-hear-the-silenceIf the project is still going, e-mail me at mattxtra@gmail.com or add me on msn on secretxi011@hotmail.com. Or both. Whatever

The quality of the tracks submitted and included on the CD are dependant on what you hope to achieve with the release. If its genuinely envisioned as a showcase then quality is of absolute paramount importance. Less is more so maybe a selection of 6 songs at the most. If this is what its for, where would it be distributed?
If its intended as a "nice to have" then fill yer boots!
I don't think this will actually be a commercial venture - no one will buy it who isn't a member of J/S unless the songs included are genuinely comparable with commercial releases and there is marketing to go with it. Also, compilations generally are of tracks that you as the buyer know pretty well from radio play, and importantly, are of a similar genre. As I understand things, JS isn't a record label, distributor or PR company. To make this work, it will take a wheel-barrow load of cash. Maybe, if the project is supported by enough people, and the quality is good enough, sponsors should be found who can finance this. The days of the record label are numbered and the hype in the industry currently is around branding etc.... (Groove Armada and Baccardi, Paul McCartny and Starbucks etc). I don't think it would be Jam Studio itself, but there's probably some entity out there who'd see this as a good investment.
This all sounds pretty negative, which is unfortunate, but I'm being realistic. Genuinely, good luck with this, but I fear you might bite off more than you can chew!
Jim

Tunecore gives you a unique IRSC code and distributes your music on iTunes, Amazon, Napster and all the major online stores for just 9.99 a song (less if it's an entire album), and let you keep 100% of the profits. If a few of us put in the money together, we could definitley come up with that amount. However, Jim is probably right. It would be fun to do, but not many people are going to come across the album, nevermind actually coughing up the cash to buy it. iTunes sell songs for 99c. On an album with 10 songs, a rough ball-point figure would mean we would have to sell 100 songs to break even. www.tunecore.com if you're interested, though. Matt
