I liked the song, but the vocals, too much vibrato, off key at times. Great lyrics though!

Thanks everyone. Had a blast with this song. I can only sing with the voice I was given.
Thanks to Dave again for the opportunity to lay down to his work.

but with proper breathing/vocal exercises, everyone can sing great. Theres only some people that can step up to a mic and sound amazing without much practice

I appreciate the advice. Believe me. I have been writing and singing my own songs or with bands/fellow musicians for 20+ years. I have what I have to work with. Trust me, if I could afford a vocal coach, I would jump on it in a heartbeat. I also lost a lot of range (breathing and using your diaphragm) when I was 22 years old due to lung concerns brought on my a bout of bronchitis that hospitalized me. I have also served in the military for 14 years of that time, which takes away a lot of opportunity to regularly train (can't practice singing or playing guitar when not wanting to get shot or blown up). Add to that having my dear Wife and two children to support. I've wrote probably in the range of 600-700 songs (lyrics/vocals and/or musical composition) during my musical writing period from approximately 1987-present (2009). And I have kept every one of them. I'm going back through my catalog of songs to pick out what I want to record down through jamrecorder. My goal is to have an album out within the coming months. I have already layed down around 10 songs with jamrecorder. Essentially acoustic, but most of my songs are wrote for performance with either electric guitar or acoustic guitar. I'm obviously, for those that have listened to any of my songs, a rhythm guitarist, but I have wrote little leadic parts in songs throughout my musical period/career. I lost a lot of range, but essentially have a mono-type-voice. Hearing concerns come into play here as well. I have wrote the basis for songs on many different types of instruments ranging from electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass, piano, keybaord, drums, drumming with various objects, alto recorder, bear flute (friend played a piece that I recorded to use as part of an old song), and to simply have a vocal trend as the initial conception. Whatever makes the song happen and gives me "that feel" that I am happy performing the composition from my head with is just fine with me. Last night, I sat down to work on two of my latest songs and then after that I started to just play songs that have been staples of mine for years after that. I am more and more amazed each day with how many songs I truly have in my head. I just really need a band to work with, which has always been my goal from the outset as a 14-15 year-old back in 1986-87. V/R, Joey (Robert J. Dudas)

Hey Joey ! I understand what Liambert is saying....he wants all of us to be the best we can be... his feedback is honest and constructive....and that's cool. I for one, like your vocal style...it reminds me of the Seattle based vocalists in the grunge movement during the 80's and 90's. And to me, that was a cool shift in the mainstream perception of what good music is all about. So....keep on singing ! I don't even try....lol Dave

oh yeah, I wasn't saying you have a bad voice, in other songs you've posted, it was great! I am sorry to hear though of your prior setbacks. I remember what you've said before about your music career back in the 80s until now. Believe me, I can't afford a vocal coach right now either, so i'm just trying to learn from whatever free literature is out there until I can. I didn't mean anything by what I said at all. Now I feel really bad.....

I think what they are saying in a nut shell is that We look for a certain type of voice for a certain type of song.Just like Country Music man I love it but I don't have the voice. brother remember We are getting older, things change so don't be to hard on them.--------------------Ant We know you are a killer song Writer. And Joey I just got this new girl friend and We where parked up on the hill and she said do you wanta get in the back seat and I said know I wanta set up front with you! Don't know what I'm do'in wrong!

Ant - LOL...about the gf part. Thanks for your service in an often critically thought effort on the political sense (Vietnam).
Liambert84 - It's cool man. I truly understand that you are giving critical thought. I learned the cruel process we call "critiquing" as an art student earlier in life from my art teacher and other students.
I, like most here, have worked with what I have been given in life. No excuses, just making music.
I have become confortable with my given talents musically and vocally. I just wish I had better recording opportunities such as jamrecorder earlier in life.
V/R, Joey

Hey Joey ! 24 years on the flightline in the Air Force....believe me I understand the hearing concerns......Huh?...What?...Somebody say something?.....lol What? Did you say something? I worked with Harriers from 1992-1994. I also have a problem that I didnt' discover till later in life. It's gross, but ear wax gets behind my eardrum and stays there. I have to use cleaning solutions on a somewhat quarterly basis. I still have my voice. I still have my hands. I'm learning and doing new musical ideas every day. I have a lovely Wife. Two beautiful children. My daughter (only one) definately is musically inclined (drums and dance already). I can't complain. V/R, Joey

I don't know what the hell you guys are talking about, lol! what was the original topic here? Oh I remember, it was daves song. Dave, nice work my friend, the melody line was tight, well mixed, you are coming into your own my friend. Joey, hey bud, I don't think what Liambert is saying is at all a bad thing nor do i think you have to defend yourself once said. I really think we would all benefit from some good constructive assessments of our music, and let's face it, it is a relatively small group of us that take the time to listen to each others work, we are "close"or as close as people can be without actually meeting someone and actually seeing them, and carrying on a normal kind of friendship with them, so that being said, we should relish the input of our peers and firiends, because they do it from a place of caring, not from a place of hurtfulness. It's the best way for us to learn to make our music better or more accessible, no one is out to crush anyone here, at least I don't think so, so any constructive things anyone of "us" says to one another should be accepted graciously (which I did think you accepted graciously joey) and taken with a grain of salt. I think we really do need to be honest with one another in order to help each other grow and expand ourselves musically. I think to always have something good to say about someones piece is very polite and very respectful and very optomistic, for sure and some people need that kind of encouragement. I always try to be all of those things and more but if we want to take our music to the next level, and actually market it, the peers in the industry will be cold, realistic and often rude, so i would much rather you guys tell me like it is than to put it out there for real and have it crash and burn. Like looking at some of the new peoples submissions coming 3-4-5 at a time, what's the rush, it's not a contest of who can submit the most songs, it's not a contest at all, I know that I am going to submit something for you all to listen to when it's ready, not before. Not only that but Ant will probably delete it anyway, lol! So what the hell were we talking about anyways? Thanks to all of you, my online community, my online critics, my online and offline friends. Late Ron/eno
