MORE THAN 5 PAGES...MORE THAN 8 MIXER TRACKS PER MEASURE...UNLIMITED SONG LENGTH...UNLIMITED COMBINATIONS OF STRUMMING PATTERNS...KEY CHANGES WITHIN THE SAME SONG...and yes... EVEN THE UNPREDICATBILITY AND IMPERFECTIONS IN THE PERFORMANCE THAT MAKES PLAYING MUSIC SPECIAL, REAL, AND HUMAN

I apologize, the other morning I had just come off a late night of pushin' out the jams in my jammies and I came across a very interesting feature of JamStudio.  It appears that an All Access Pass IS JUST THAT!

The secret (for me at least) was in opening up multiple sessions of JamStudio.com (in whatever way you like) and once logged into both, I could play one off the other utilizing one for rythym and one for fills.  Maybe someone will come up with a way to capture and share these unique renditions that I am creating with this technique.  For now, I'll just have to share it those that can hear me.

The real trick is in the timing about when you start one against the other.  Since it is impossible to click a mouse in two places at exactly the same time (and I can come realll close to it using additional software to click my mouse for me), it's easier to use other techniques like lead in's and rests.  BTW, it would be real nice if it were possible to insert an empty sound for a measure other than the very first one on the page.  One should be allowed to skip playing a measure or two to give the other players a chance to play their parts.  I could coin in some other suggestions that would make using this technique not only more enjoyable, controllable, social, etc., but at the end of the day I just want to play... CYA...

Your Editor?  What editor...can I get it from JamStudio.com or a link.  I do have this program I downloaded earlier Audacity or something like it, but it was for another purpose.  I know I could probably create a MP3 merge it in and modify it using these other editors, but that's not really the point.  I love the immediate response I get from JS when trying different "whatif" scenarios.  Very similar to the experiance I get during practice sessions - more the mindwork and composition parts, but similar to a degree that the product has huge promise.  At least  in my short run with it.  Maybe after a while, I too will simply seek fullfilling the "nth" degree of CPUMusic, but for now...you know (just keep playin')

The way I have combined the two sessions of JS into one, and I realize that this is something that most "normal" people would bother with, is by combining them into a singe webpage and driving them both with Javascript and VBScript functions which in turn calls an ActiveX control to click the mouse whereever and whenever I want.  So...I gues you can say I have made my own editor which consists of tow JS Sessions, some XML files to contain my song versions, and some higher level functions that allow for certain effects like fading the volume of a replaying page.  The next thing I may tackle is attempting to add the ability to "rest" for a given length of time by "muting" a particular playback session in any part of the song.

BTW, my goal is to do as much as I can in JS only (including my custom useage of it) and move onto other editors later.

Didn't know that.  That mixcraft looks pretty awesome.  It looks like it has all of the mixing and editability features I've been looking for, like I said before I am fairly green to the CPMusic scene.  I am actually taking things a little slower that last few days, as bad times seem to find their way back into my life yet again.

I still think that JS is great for what it is and with a little bit of thoughtful work and planning it could be made way....better!

Ant,

I bought a Lexicon Lambda  desktop recording studio a few years back and it came with a version of cubase.  It looks pretty complicated, but similar enough to what I saw on Mixcraft at your site to make me wonder how much you know about it.  I am really green when it comes to music software, most of my background has been in corporate client/server intranet and internet stuff.  So any advice you can lend me would be greatly appreciated.

If you like, I can get the mixcraft download you mentioned and start there.  Maybe that would paint a garden path to a better understanding of cubase and what it can do.  When you get a chance.
