oh one more thing im thinking of getting finale songwriter 2010 you think that will save me time writng sheet music. and do you know of a camera i could use for music videos

camera - any of those newer, smaller, hd cams will do you well - unless you're talking prosumer, in which case pull that $5k out of your pocket and start researching. for editing software, again it depends on the level you want to do - but there is a huge learning curve. Basic freebie of course is windows movie maker. Sony makes a good, easy product called Vegas, with many user levels available to purchase - that's the one my son uses to make machinima.
If you can write/read sheet music now then I'm sure any of the programs will help. Check out noteflight.com, too.
