Wow, Ant I like that. I'm just amazed at your guy's abilities to edit. I like Ant's version with the bring in, then is there a way to use Dave's fade out option? It would be cool to have some soul guitar playing in there too...like a little in the beginning and a little at the end perhaps a little in the middle instead of having a bridge? Would that shorten the song any? Just some ideas I'm throwing out there. I'll look at my lyrics and melody and see how I can re-edit them to shorten the song then sing I what I came up with. Would that work?

Hi Crystal ! I like Ant's new version too......I haven't timed it yet but I'm sure it's shorter....when we decide on a final music mix the fade out can still be the same.....maybe Ant could do it......his guitar licks are way better than the loop ones I used....lol Anyway, here's a rough mix so you can hear your voice along with the music......pick out the areas that need work..... pronunciation, pitch, etc.....so when you do your next vocal cut you can concentrate on those......Sounding pretty good so far !!..... Dave http://www.box.net/shared/j6ivt0qy29 ps......I think the mic issue is the main problem....listen to this vocal done by Savannah (ripamo's daughter) on one of my songs (lyrics by Wyot)......ripamo said she did this using one of those headset microphones (like the ones for chatting I think)...I was shocked at how clear it was...lol....and then it was mastered by Robert (trebor999) .....so that might be all it takes !.... http://www.box.net/shared/myphqomy54

Oh yeah ....Ant thanks for the nice job removing that noise !.... ......In this last mix, I added some compression stuff, and EQ.... Also, Crystal are you using a pop filter ?......and you might as well know that I can't sing at all so any advice I give on vocals is at your own risk.....lol..... Dave

Hi Guys and Gals,
I have been watching this thread closely and just want to say this is coming along very nicely! Alot of talent here. You have a nice voice toobad4mj2005 (Crystal). I dont want to step on any toes, but I would like to offer any help you may need, in the way of mixing/mastering, if needed.
Robert

Hi Ant, Sounds like a mini condersor mic built into a laptop strikes again.. The problem is that they dont have any dynamic range at all. Even if the vocal was recorded in a sound treated studio with that mic and you used the best enhancing EQ software, the quality still would be very marginal at best. I would recommend a usb mic. even a cheap one would quadruple the quality. You may have to look online if there are no stores around you, but with a little patience, determination, and luck, Crystal may find what she needs at the right price. Robert

Hey everyone, I put an extra hundred in my bank account and I'm looking around ebay for a usb mic. I'm having lots of luck finding them too...it'll take about three days for the money to get in my paypal account and another 3-5 days to probably ship it to me. I do have a chatting microphone that I used for the last vocal I did. Like I said the earpiece that fits in the ear was lost when my daughter got a hold of it so I shoved the ear loop under the headphone and recorded it that way. But no worries...the mics I've seen range from 12-90 dollars. Which would be the better buy though, one with a filter or one without?

Thanks Dave! This is definitely in my price range, all the ones with filters that I found on Ebay were in the 90-130 dollars...a little steep for me. It sounds great, there's no humming that I can hear and the music playing was definitely clear. Can you get the music to play only in the one side? Or is there an option for that? Also, did you want just vocals or vocals with music? Which would be better I guess is what I am asking. Thanks for everything you guys have done so far. I greatly, greatly, greatly appreciate this. Really I do.

I guess the next step is to come up with the music track we want to use.....that way you will be able to adjust the lyrics and vocals to fit when you get your new mic......so I guess we should start tossing around some music mixes !....... I did the mic test by recording myself talking while listening to the music play in the one ear......I'm using Magix Music Maker right now and when I record it asks me if I want the other tracks to play while recording..... I just click on yes....press record and go ! When you do your vocals in Mixcraft 5 let the music play in the one ear and record your singing onto a separate track .......then when you get it like you want it....delete the music tracks and do a "save as" of just the vocal track with a new name ....then just export it as a WAV or Mp3 .....We will mix your clean vocal track and all the music tracks into a master file and go from there... You might want to wait until you hear from Ant, Wy, or Robert about good mics before you buy one......The one I used is just one example of something pretty cheap but will still work..... .......catch ya later ! Dave

Thanks Dave! This is definitely in my price range, all the ones with filters that I found on Ebay were in the 90-130 dollars... Hi Crystal, When you say "all the ones with filters" ... are you talking about foam filter covers? If you are... then dont worry about the filter. You can make your own that works just as well for almost nothing. Shape a coat hanger into a shape of a lollipop with a circle around the size of a softball, then take a pair of hose "as in pantyhose" and cover the circle part. then use the handle part to either make it into a stand or attach it to the mic or mic stand so that the filter is in front of the mic about 4-6 inches. they work great as pop filters. Robert
