I can't afford any other software; just renewing my Jam Studio's subscription this month left me with only 25 dollars to my name. I supplement my songs with audacity, but as a great man once said, "Audacity is fine, until you want to do anything."

I've tried out a number of free softwares, as well as free trials of others. The only one which I managed to get any sort of feel for was Fruity Loops, and it is way out of my price range. And then there is the issue of buying loops as well. Electronic music creation can be ridiculously expensive, which is why I'm sure many people love and take up Ant's acidized loop sales; I would if I could use them.

The first thing that i find happens to me ocasionally is that i get in a hurry. Don't think you have to finish a song right now. Sometimes if you are having trouble finding a loop to match what you want just take your time and start listening to what other loops offer, you might like what you here. One of my new tunes some seem to like is "the hand of God". Well i labored for over a month on it, changing sounds then came back the next day and listened and even changed the key before it clicked. Changing tempo changes how some loops sound. If you can't afford to buy more loops search for free ones, they are there. Ant had some loops the other day for $8.00 i believe, thats a great deal.

In the end though jamstudio was meant to be a scratch pad so if they were to add more loops it would add much more labor in design and the cost would have to go back to the consumer, then the price for membership would have to go up causing people to have to quit paying. So if you just have to have the exact sound your hearing in your head you will need to find loops elsewhere to go along with jamstudio.

Have a great day! Wink

@Ant: I am not missing any points. Since as Emerald states once again: he only uses JS and audacity ... and so do I. There is no way denying that in this case JS is restrictive ... no matter your talent, imagination, inspiration or whatever.   Wink

There are definitely ways to lift this restriction, but as Emerald states: due to budget he can't lift it. So that means that the restrictions remain. Nevertheless I am sure that he will be able to provide us with many more songs in the time to come!    Cheesy

@JK: It's not true that improving a program would need to raise the monthly fee. Herefore I would present once again the example of World Of Warcraft. I played it as a die-hard hunter for 4 years nonstop. In the end I actually paid less than in the beginning!   Grin
It's not that crazy of an idea to assume that a part of the monthly fee is used for maintenance and another part is used for improvement ... i bet that even a part of the incoming JS budget is used for advertising. Improving JS will definitely attract more users and thus turn in even more money.    Wink   Besides, you could ask yourself: is the commitment of JS as great as the commitment of its users?    Wink

But hey, I bought today a new microphone. So I better spend more time in finalizing 'Speed Of Light' than spending time in this discussion.    Grin

Well I have a friend who has just decided to help me start my own label. Not sure how we do that......what I mean is should I still try to get on with a larger label for the backing or should I do it all myself? I know that setting up a label is hard, but bands like Foo Fighters and Sublime have done it successfully.
